I commend the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany them in their toil all the days of the life God has given them under the sun.
— Ecclesiastes 8:15

The start of a new year is always confusing to me.  The weeks leading up to Christmas are full of much anticipation and excitement.  Sure, there is stress and some angst mixed in, but the music, decorations and glory of Christmas all bring joy of the coming birth.  Christmas came and went like it does every year and I find myself having to recover into the new year.  I was able to forget about my to do list (mostly) and enjoy myself and suddenly, this new year is like a rushing wind that is making it hard for me to find my balance.

How quickly I forget what the season of Christmas is about.  I anticipated, received and now I'm acting like I can't have it back until next Christmas.  What a lie.  And a lie that our culture allows us to believe each year.  My prayer for the rest of the year is Ecclesiastes 8:15 - what a sweet reminder that there is nothing better for us than to enjoy life.  This precious life.  Now.  We have been given the most incredible gift imaginable and there is no other option than to enjoy it in the fullest.  We don't have to anticipate his birth before Christmas and then not enjoy Him into the new year - what would be the point of all the anticipation then?!
